Spindletop is named after
the first oil well in Texas, the setting for Lone Star, a
play that inspired Peters to create a company that enables local
professionals to literally gush with ideas and talent in a creative
environment. Spindletop recruits top local professionals with drive
and perseverance that produces exciting theater experiences.
The company has produced Larry Shue’s The Nerd, Marc
Camoletti’s
Don’t Dress for Dinner at East Hampton’s John Drew Theater
at Guild Hall, the madcap comedy Hamlet II by Sam Bobrick
performed as dinner theater at Rocco’s Restaurant in Sag Harbor,
New York, and James McLure’s Lone Star at the Stephen
Talkhouse in Amagansett, New York.
The productions have earned critical acclaim. Here’s what some of
the critics had to say about Spindletop’s spring 2003 production of
The Nerd.
“A tight and bright evening of
amusing craziness. . . a solid and satisfying rendition of this
crazy comedy, finely acted, energetically directed and altogether
captivating.”
—Lee Davis; Southampton Press
“That such a finished performance comes to us now, at a time
when we are preoccupied with the news, turns out to be a generous
gift from Spindletop Productions, the cast of The
Nerd, and an able crew.”

“While comedy has been king
with Spindletop with hits like Don’t Dress
for Dinner, Hamlet II, and The Nerd,
producing Dracula has always been a dream of mine,” says
Jonathan Peters, the founder. “I have always wanted to stage a
production that pulls out all the stops, that shocks and awes with
a treasure chest of special effects.”
